How to Calculate 15% VAT in Saudi Arabia

The calculation depends on whether the price you have is before VAT or already includes VAT.

Add 15% VAT

If you have the price before VAT, multiply it by 15% to calculate the VAT amount.

VAT = Net Price × 0.15
Total = Net Price × 1.15
−

Remove 15% VAT

If your amount already includes 15% VAT, divide the total by 1.15 to calculate the net amount.

Net Price = Total ÷ 1.15
VAT = Total − Net Price
%

Find the VAT Amount

For an amount excluding VAT, calculate 15% of that value to determine the VAT to add.

VAT Amount = Net Price × 15 ÷ 100

UNDERSTANDING THE NUMBERS

VAT Inclusive vs VAT Exclusive Price

VAT-Exclusive Price

A VAT-exclusive amount is the value before VAT is added. For example, if the net price is SAR 1,000 and 15% VAT applies, the VAT is SAR 150 and the final price becomes SAR 1,150.

VAT-Inclusive Price

A VAT-inclusive amount already contains VAT. For example, a total of SAR 1,150 including 15% VAT contains a net amount of SAR 1,000 and VAT of SAR 150.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Does 15% VAT Apply to Everything in Saudi Arabia?

No. 15% is Saudi Arabia's standard VAT rate where applicable, but VAT treatment can differ depending on the nature of the transaction.

Saudi VAT rules also include supplies that may qualify for a zero rate and supplies that may be exempt from VAT under specific conditions. This is why the calculator should be used only after you know which VAT treatment applies to your transaction.

If you are unsure whether a transaction should be standard rated, zero-rated or exempt, consult current ZATCA guidance or a qualified tax adviser rather than choosing a rate based solely on this calculator.
